Devious Scam In Which The Check They Send You Clears

There’s a really devious scam going around worth mentioning because of one compelling tactic the scammers use. My dad received a letter the other day “informing” him that he was the lucky winner of some unclaimed prize money. Below is the letter he received. They sent him a check for $1,940 dollars and told him that all he needs to do to claim the prize money is deposit the check and send back a portion of that money for processing fees and identification purposes. My dad’s first thought (which I imagine yours is as well) was, Oh! This must be a scam. They expect me to...

Cloth or Disposable. How About A Better Choice?

Akumi and I went to our first birthing class tonight. The way the scheduling ended up, we're attending the last two classes of this series, then the first four later. Since many of my friends are expecting, I thought I'd mention the things that struck me as something new I've never heard. Conventional wisdom says that cloth diapers are better for the baby's bum than disposables. They result in less diaper rashes and don't produce a lot of landfill waste. However, this comes at a cost of convenience (who wants to wash all that crap?) and the amount of detergent...

Year of the Starving Pig?

In January, I wrote that according to the Chinese Zodiac, this is the Year of the Golden Pig. According to foklore, this is a special event that occurs once every 600 years and brings great fortune to babies born during the year. As an aside, not many realized that the Chinese New Year didn’t start until February 18 this year. So your January baby doesn’t make the cut. But don’t worry, read on. Many historians and others have discounted the year of the golden pig as mere legend. No historical record 600 years ago point to the significance of this...

This Is Why I Love Soccer

All that pent up frustration unleashed when a goal is scored spurs great creativity. Great Goal Celebrations. The choice of music for each goal is classic. My favorite is at the 4:24 mark.

I recently added a new feature that allows you to subscribe to this blog via email. This is for those of you not tech savvy enough to use an RSS aggregator (whether online or not) and despite my geek-elitist condescending tone, still want to read when I occasionally post to this blog. Don't you worry. When the rugrat is born, I'll be posting a lot more to this blog.

What Men Would Buy If They Never Got Married

I was having a conversation with a fellow coworker who remarked, “See, that’s why I’m glad I’m not married yet. I can buy whatever the heck I want without questions asked.” I pointed out that rather than feel constrained, I’m glad to have someone to help control my spending. Being married is the best thing that’s happened to me, both emotionally and especially financially. For example, if I wasn’t married, I’d probably by this crap: Robotic Beer Launching Refrigerator Gentlement, admit you would too.
