I'm really glad our friend Laura let us borrow this video called The Happiest Baby on the Block. It's also a book, but I think the video is probably a quicker way to learn in this case.
It's predicated on the theory that the first three month's of a baby's life is in essence, the fourth trimester. In other words, the baby is still very fetus like.
Blah blah blah.
The important thing is that the video demonstrates how to activate the calming reflex that all babies have. Here's a video in which I demonstrate with Cody.
I apologize that it is a bit dark, but you get the picture. In the end, I turn him on his side (leaning slightly face forward) and shush in his ear. This is important. It turns out that doing just this works in a pinch, even without swaddling.
